I learned about three inventions and one inventor. The inventions are the coke-fired blast furnace, the Newcomen steam engine, and the octant. The inventor’s name is Thomas Newcomen. First, I learned about the coke-fired blast furnace. Darby invented the coke-fired Blast furnace and figured out how to make iron thinner. The coke-fired blast furnace iron was used to build the first iron arch bridge. Second, I learned about the Newcomen steam engine. It performs mechanical work and uses the vacuum to power the pump. It was used to power other tools and machinery. Third, I learned about Thomas Newcomen. Newcomen was born in Dartmouth in 1663 and he became an iron monger. Newcomen invented the Newcomen steam engine and was his greatest achievement. Lastly, I learned the octant. It measures distances between celestial objects. The octant is mostly used by sailors.
