Lesson 150 Essay

I learned about three inventions and one inventor this week. The inventions were the crystal oscillator, the yagi uda antenna, penicillin, and the inventor is George Washington Carver. First, I learned about the crystal oscillator. Curies discovered piezoelectricity which was used to build instruments for detecting radioactivity and the crystal oscillator was invented by Alexander M. Nicholson. A crystal oscillator is an electronic  circuit that uses a piezoelectric crystal as an element. It works with radios and vacuum tubes, and is cheap today.

Second, I learned about George Washington Carver. George Washigton Carver was born in the 1860s,  became a christian as a boy and earned a college education. He is mostly known for his farming techniques and the produced peanut recipes. Became known as the peanut man and made peanuts a southern crop by the 1940s.

Third, I learned about the yagi uda antenna. Hidetugn Yagi researched radio waves and Shintaro Uda studied under Yagi, and then they both invented the Yagi Uda Antenna. A Yagi–Uda antenna, or simply Yagi antenna, is a directional antenna consisting of two or more antenna elements.  It helped increase TV use and led to cable TV.

Finally, I learned about penicillin. Alexander Fleming, born in Scotland, in 1881, studied under a vaccine professor and studied bacteria for the next 14 years. Penicillin is a medication used to manage and treat infections.  It has led to other developments of drugs and must be careful to not overuse it.
