Lesson 155 Essay

I learned about four inventions and they were the electron microscope, FM radio, nuclear fission, and the transistor. First, I learned about the electron microscope. The inventor of the electron microscope was Ernst Ruska and was created in 1933. An electron microscope is an instrument in which a beam of electrons is used to produce an enlarged image of a very small object. Scientists are finally able to observe viruses and helps quickly understand deadly outbreaks.

Second, I learned about FM radio. Edwin Armstrong, born in New York, in 1890, became interested in radio tech through college. FM radio is used for most broadcasts of music and general audio. Since its invention, it has helped change music overtime. Eventually, its influence was that classic rock and country music was playing on the radio through the 1990s.

Third, I learned about nuclear fission. Rutherford split atoms in 1932 and Leo Szilard, born in Hungry, in 1898, invented nuclear fission after reading Rutherford’s doubts. A nuclear fission is a process in which a heavy nucleus splits another particle and  releases energy. It supplied 20% of the U.S.’s electricity in 2015.
Finally I learned about the transistor. John Bardeen, William Shockely, and Walter Brittain all invented the transistor together. A transistor is a miniature semiconductor that controls current flow amplifying and generating these electrical signals. It altered the course of history and the transistor count doubles every two years.
